Psychotherapy and Counseling:

CHILDREN

Play Therapy is a specific counseling approach in which games, toys and mediums such as clay, drawings and paint are used to help a child or adolescent to express their emotions, thoughts, wishes and needs. It helps them to understand muddled feelings and upsetting events that they have not had the chance or the skills to sort out properly. Rather than having to explain what is troubling them, children are able to use play to communicate their troubles on their level and at their own pace, without feeling interrogated or threatened.

I offer play therapy for children who are experiencing challenges such as:

  • Abuse and Neglect
  • Fears, Worries, and Anxiety (e.g. separation anxiety)
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Low Self-esteem or Confidence
  • Trauma
  • Parental Divorce
  • Sibling Rivalry

ADOLESCENCE

Adolescence is a stage at which an individual is no longer a child nor an adult, life definitely gets more complex at this stage as one attempts to find their own identity, struggles with social interaction, and grapples with moral issues. Adolescents have the task of discovering who they are as individuals separate from their family of origin and as members of a wider society. There are therefore many challenges facing this developmental stage, which can cause role confusion and upheaval.

I can provide assistance in the following adolescent psychological concerns:

  • Adjustment difficulties
  • Anxiety (e.g. Generalised Anxiety, Social phobias)
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Identity Related Concerns
  • Peer Conflict
  • Poor Self Esteem
  • Trauma

INDIVIDUAL ADULT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Therapy consists of a series of techniques for treating mental health, emotional wellbeing and some psychiatric disorders. Psychotherapy helps the client understand what helps them feel positive or anxious, as well as accepting their strong and weak points. If people can identify their feelings and ways of thinking they become better at coping with difficult situations. Therapy is a process of learning more about the self so one can be less confused, less overwhelmed and freer to make choices and decisions to live the life he/she wants!

I can provide assistance in the treatment and management of the following concerns:

  • Adjustment Difficulties
  • Anxiety (e.g. General Anxiety, Social Phobias, Panic disorder)
  • Psychological Disorders
  • Concentration and Attentional difficulties
  • Post Divorce concerns
  • Relationship problems
  • Social conflict
